I found out about this org while working with the The Basement back in 06 and i still feel like if we need more of these org's to stadily grow the market and aweness.
The Faculty of Hiphop is now working under the banner of the newly formed company "Hip Hop Education South Africa" (t/a The Faculty of Hiphop), incorporated under s21 of the Companies Act. It has also parnered with the international organisation, Baobabconnections.
The organisation strives to use the powerful medium of hiphop culture as a tool for youth upliftment and promoting sustainable development in various communities. The medium is channelled through a range of projects hosted by the organisation in fulfilling its aims.
HHESA’s vision is to be a leader and forerunner in the field of promoting social awareness through expressive media in South Africa and also to have an influence internationally.
HIP HOP EDUCATION SOUTH AFRICA trading as the Faculty of Hip Hop has since 2003 undertaken various projects that includes:
Bi - monthly park jams around the Western Cape.
Annuall Youth Film Festival.
Bridging the Gap
Annaul Hip Hop In Context Seminar.
Ghetto Bootleg Project.
Each One Teach One (GERMANY) - music exchange project.
Concious Connectionz - HIV project with Concious flows (USA).
72 HOUR MUSIC MARATHON 2004.
HIP HOP CONNECTED 2007/2008.
H.H.E.S.A where also instrumental in producing South Africa's first Afrikaans hip hop show on KYKNET called HIP HOP. The series ran for four seasons of 16 epsisodes with repeats and was hosted by MR.FAT of B.V.K fame who is instrumental in the existence of the organisation. The G.H.E.T.T.O. P.I.M.P ( Giving Healing Education Through Teaching One Principles Improving Mental Position) show was another brainchild of H.H.E.S.A that ran from 2003 - 2008 on U.C.T Radio that featured live dj sets, interviews and debates around music, politcs and social concerns.The Faculty of Hiphop's radio show is currently negotiating its on-air slot on the radio and, although its future format is currently uncertain, the show is by no means finished!
